Abstract

Adoption consists of a form of family constitution that involves legal, affective, and social aspects that differentiate from biological affiliation. We analyzed the literature on adoption by homosexual couples through an integrative review with 26 articles available in Redalyc, Pepsic, Dialnet, Capes Periodicals, published between 2014-2021, which were analyzed by Content Analysis. We built five categories: 1) Tensions in the adoption process by homosexual couples; 2) Gay couples and lesbian couples; 3) The view of professionals working in the adoption process; 4) Tensions in law and the system; 5) Policy on adoption by homosexual couples. We realized that the adoption by homosexual couples disturbs the social stability of heterosexuality and that LGBT rights are in the hands of those who execute the adoption process, and depending on the openness to these professionals’ diversity, this will be bureaucratic.
